Should you write a book? This is a question that many people struggle with. But, just as every person is different, each book has its reasons for coming across our desk and entering the publishing process.
In Becoming a Published Author
For example, John Tippets of Texas felt he had a responsibility to his family that only he could fulfill:
“A few years ago, I realized that my children and grandchildren knew very little about my parents, Joseph and Alta Tippets. And so, a project was started—writing about my parent’s lives, searching out information from extended family and personal memories.
“In the spring of 1940, Joe and Alta were living in Alaska, beginning an exciting new chapter in their lives, which would bring adventure, great joy, and incredible challenges.
“In 1943, one of the coldest Januarys on record, my father, Joe, was flying home to Anchorage when the small plane he was in made a crash-landing on the side of a snowy mountain in Southeast Alaska.
“Two of the six on the plane lost their lives. One was the famous bush pilot Harold Gillam, who left the survivors’ camp to find help.
“My father was only 29 years old. As the days and weeks came and went, with no sign of the lost plane, friends urged my mother, Alta, to accept that she was a widow and return to family in Utah. She refused. She somehow knew that her husband would be found alive.
“Researching this book took me to many people and places. After publishing Hearts of Courage, I tell the story of my parents to many people and organizations, passing on Joe and Alta’s experience of faith and courage.
“Our family and the world at large have been able to share that experience. This is one of the many wonderful things I’ve learned that can happen when you write a book.”
Should you write a book?
That’s a question only you can answer.

We hear authors complain about all the personal stuff on Facebook. Most of these complaints are because the author doesn’t understand the difference difference between a Facebook profile and a Facebook page. Simply put, a profile is for personal things for friends and family; a page is for business. If your book is just a hobby, then it’s fine to have only a Facebook profile and make your posts for friends and family; however, if you’re serious about your writing, and it’s a business with you, or you want it to be business, then you need a Facebook page as an author. It’s simple to tell if it’s a page or a profile. A profile shows how many friends and a page shows how many likes. Here’s a link <> to a straight forward description on how to set up your author Facebook page.
