When recently asked about his years of prospecting, Daniel S. Janik said, Yes, I was ultimately successful and discovered gold — a golden thread running throughout my life — my friendship with Ted and my writing.” Dan’s bedtime fairy tales of the far North are a new breed of oral tales, told and retold around campfires – now developed into complete stories. Sourdough Scott’s Bedtime Fairy Tales From Alaska are pure pleasure, for you, your friends, your children, and their children’s children. They are Dan’s heartfelt gift to the precious, childlike, explorer-pioneer inside of all of us – himself included!”
Author : Daniel Janik
At 10 years of age, Dan immigrated with his family to Alaska, and spent his childhood watching the Last Frontier transform from a wild territory into a full-fledged state. From Cub Scout to Eagle Scout, he and his best friend, Joseph 'Ted' Ireton, hiked, backpacked, and camped Southcentral Alaska together from Homer to Talkeetna, Skwentna to McCarthy. A graduate of East Anchorage High School, he went on to study at the University of Washington (BA), University of California at Berkeley (MPH), Loma Linda University (MD) and later Bircham International University (PhD). He later returned to Anchorage and served briefly as Consulting Pediatrician and then Medical Director of the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center, and finally Municipal Medical Officer, all the while trekking his beloved mountains and prospecting for gold with Ted. Author of over 60 academic and literary publications, he currently teaches American Academic English at Intercultural Communications College in Honolulu, Hawaii. Ted Ireton is a Yupik Eskimo and lives in Anchorage with his wife Judy and son Scott.
