One of the conundrums of modern publishing life is how an author can possibly sell something they can’t actually hand to a reader.
How can we sell eBooks at book signings? How can we autograph them? We understand this situation on a personal level, being authors ourselves.
We know that it can be difficult for some authors to make the shift from selling books by doing readings and book signings, to the more ethereal activities of promoting a virtual book in the virtual sales venue of the Internet.
These are times of great change in the publishing world, and the rate of change won’t slow down any time soon. This is why we both educate and encourage our authors in their quest to sell their work.
On a regular basis, Publication Consultants offers marketing webinars to our authors, as well as webinar instruction on web sites, blogging, and using Facebook and Twitter.
These webinars are made available free of charge to our clients. The knowledge our authors learn can help them sell eBooks as well as paper books.
We did not immediately jump on the social media bandwagon. Chasing a new fashion simply because it’s new will waste a lot of time and energy. But neither are we the most conservative publisher in the world.
We have always researched various ways and means to assist our clients, and held marketing workshops in past years. We decided to offer these webinars on using social media, not just because it’s new, but because we believe the information can be truly useful.
As we have always seen it proven that the author is the best person to sell his or her books, we are always looking to help the author reach more readers. Social media is just another way to do that.
We would like to hear from you on what has worked in your own bookselling efforts. We’ll take the time to post some of your experiences in future blogs.
Keep in touch.

Cortex is for serious authors and will probably not be of interest to hobbyists. We recorded our Cortex training and information meeting. If you’re a serious author, and did not attend the meeting, and would like to review the training information, kindly let us know. Authors are required to have a Facebook author page to use Cortex.

We hear authors complain about all the personal stuff on Facebook. Most of these complaints are because the author doesn’t understand the difference difference between a Facebook profile and a Facebook page. Simply put, a profile is for personal things for friends and family; a page is for business. If your book is just a hobby, then it’s fine to have only a Facebook profile and make your posts for friends and family; however, if you’re serious about your writing, and it’s a business with you, or you want it to be business, then you need a Facebook page as an author. It’s simple to tell if it’s a page or a profile. A profile shows how many friends and a page shows how many likes. Here’s a link <> to a straight forward description on how to set up your author Facebook page.

Mosquito Books has a new location in the Anchorage international airport and is available for signings with 21 days notice. Jim Misko had a signing there yesterday. His signing report included these words, “Had the best day ever at the airport . . ..”
