Hunts and Home Fires an account of fifty years of life spent on the last frontier. It is a reflection on the spirit of small town Alaska and of a people used to bringing home wild foods for the table. It is about youth and coming of age, about individual industry, hard work, family, and life in general. Hunting and fishing stories are the backbone, mixed with how-to information, humor, and a bit of history. There are essays regarding an interesting mix of subjects through a fifty year journey.

Author : Dennis Lattery

Dennis Lattery was born in the wrong century. Best suited for the days of hunting, cutting wood, hauling water, handshakes, and of men good enough for their own word. He is most comfortable in a hunting camp during the Alaska autumn, surrounded by colorful snow dusted mountains, the scent of wood smoke, and the sharp, distinctive, smell of ripe wild high bush cranberries. At age 8, Dennis moved to Alaska from Canada with his family in 1949. He will always consider Skagway, where he attended junior high and high school, his hometown. He received a B.Ed from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, in 1967. His first published article appeared in Bowhunter magazine in 1972 and publishing articles in state and national magazines continued into the twenty-first century. Dennis and his wife and lifetime partner, Sharon, divide their time between their home in Chugiak, Alaska, a remote cabin on Raspberry Island, in the Kodiak area, and their snow-bird home at Ajo, Arizona. Their daughter, Denise, lives nearby in Anchorage.
