Alaska Book Week is an annual celebration that shines a spotlight on Alaska’s unique and vibrant literary culture. It runs from October 5th through October 12th. It provides an exciting platform to celebrate the state’s authors, illustrators, and publishers while raising awareness about Alaska’s rich literary heritage. This event showcases diverse voices, from established authors to emerging talents, capturing the essence of life in Alaska’s communities.
Throughout the week, a variety of events—book readings, author panels, workshops, and book signings—are held at bookstores, libraries, schools, and online platforms. This wide range of venues makes it accessible to a broad audience, ensuring that everyone feels welcomed and included in the literary world of Alaska. Stories ranging from fiction and poetry to history and memoirs are celebrated, with themes often focusing on the state’s distinctive landscapes, history, and cultural narratives. These elements reflect the spirit and resilience of Alaskans, providing an opportunity to foster a deeper sense of connection and pride in the state’s storytelling traditions.
The week not only boosts visibility for local authors but also helps cultivate new literary talent. It fosters collaboration between writers, illustrators, publishers, and readers, creating a dynamic community that values the art of storytelling. Alaska Book Week underscores how literature can reflect, shape, and define the identity of this vast and rugged region, making it a must-attend event for readers and writers alike.
This vibrant celebration reminds us of the importance of literature in preserving cultural heritage and encouraging creative expression across Alaska’s diverse communities. Join us from October 5th to October 12th and experience the stories that bring Alaska’s history, culture, and landscapes to life!

We hear authors complain about all the personal stuff on Facebook. Most of these complaints are because the author doesn’t understand the difference difference between a Facebook profile and a Facebook page. Simply put, a profile is for personal things for friends and family; a page is for business. If your book is just a hobby, then it’s fine to have only a Facebook profile and make your posts for friends and family; however, if you’re serious about your writing, and it’s a business with you, or you want it to be business, then you need a Facebook page as an author. It’s simple to tell if it’s a page or a profile. A profile shows how many friends and a page shows how many likes. Here’s a link <> to a straight forward description on how to set up your author Facebook page.
