Here at Publication Consultants, we have, over the years, noticed that books do not sell themselves. It could be the best book in the world, but it will sit in our warehouse unless it’s being sold.
We have also observed that the author of the book is the best person to sell it. Noticing this, we encourage our authors to have book events rather than simply book signings.
However, many people will call a book event a book signing, perhaps because that is the main reason people go. They know that, at a book signing, the author, who has brought the book into being, will be there, and they’ll be able to meet him or her.
People like parties, readings, and special occasions put on for them, and so we encourage these.
We have gone to our authors’ book events with cake served, and book parties at restaurants with buffet meals. We have gone to many much simpler book signings where the enthusiasm of the author gives a festive air attracting people to the table unfailingly.
It all goes to show that there is no one more interested or better qualified, to sell your book than you! Book signings are one of the most effective ways to bring your book to market.
On our web site, there is a tab called “Signing Requests.” There is a little form to fill out and a few instructions to follow, but we work out regular and frequent book signings with Costco, Barnes & Noble, Fred Meyer, [which is a Kroger store], Carrs/Safeway, and Walgreen’s. We also have many signings at our local BX, which is military-speak for the store on an Army base.
We do the legwork for you. If there is another venue that you would like, we ask that you gather a little information, such as the manager’s name and contact numbers. But that’s all you need to do. We, as your publisher, contact the store management on your behalf.
This leaves you more time to put your autograph on the books you’re selling.
Keep in touch.

Cortex is for serious authors and will probably not be of interest to hobbyists. We recorded our Cortex training and information meeting. If you’re a serious author, and did not attend the meeting, and would like to review the training information, kindly let us know. Authors are required to have a Facebook author page to use Cortex.

We hear authors complain about all the personal stuff on Facebook. Most of these complaints are because the author doesn’t understand the difference difference between a Facebook profile and a Facebook page. Simply put, a profile is for personal things for friends and family; a page is for business. If your book is just a hobby, then it’s fine to have only a Facebook profile and make your posts for friends and family; however, if you’re serious about your writing, and it’s a business with you, or you want it to be business, then you need a Facebook page as an author. It’s simple to tell if it’s a page or a profile. A profile shows how many friends and a page shows how many likes. Here’s a link <> to a straight forward description on how to set up your author Facebook page.
