“Find my land. Your Uncle Syd stole it. Solve my mysteries…but don’t disturb the ghosts!” The asylum passed his deceased mother’s note to him with her belongings. Brad, a middle-aged Certified Public Accountant, has lost everything—career, business, family, finances, and home in a bankruptcy. He considers himself a loser and has struggled with autism spectrum disorders all his life. Needing a job, he reluctantly returns to his despised hometown, Williston, North Dakota –home of the Bakken oil bonanza. He quickly gets a job in an accounting office, settles into a new life, and attempts to unlock his mother’s mysteries. Uncle Syd evades personal contact and remains mysterious. Brad encounters Desmond, the head of a group of unscrupulous local businessmen. Their new allies—a Las Vegas drug mafia—are initially interested in flipping real estate. The alliance breaks up. A shooting war with the Feds ensues. Brad is reluctantly sucked into it.

The attraction of a job, the Alaska wilderness, and opportunities for outdoor sports—particularly hunting, fishing, skiing, and backpacking enticed me to move from the jobless western Plains to Anchorage during the 1970s Alaska Pipeline construction era. While I never got a job building the pipeline, I became a business computer salesman and programmer. I met my wife, Anita, when we sang in the Anchorage Community Chorus. We have lived in Anchorage, Alaska, for fifty years and successfully raised a family of three children. I was a Financial Advisor for forty-six years before retiring in 2015. My writing resume includes several essays and short stories published in several national hunting and fishing publications. I published a collection of hunting short stories, Hunters of the White Sheep, in 2018. My website and blog are found at: lynnsoiseth.com
