After 46 years in the medical profession, I retired in 2003. While cleaning and downsizing my apartment, I was inspired to write my life’s story. It was a catharsis for me. My friends and acquaintances were curious as to how I was spending

As I began cleaning and downsizing my apartment, I felt prompted to do something I never expected—write my life story. At first, it was simply a personal reflection, a way to process memories long tucked away. But the more I wrote, the more friends and acquaintances asked, “What are you doing with all your time?” When I told them I was writing about my years in a convent, they encouraged me to share it.

I had no intention of publishing, but God had other plans. Metamorphosis is the story of a journey—mine. From a shy Catholic girl in Indiana to a young woman entering a religious order with dreams of serving both God and the suffering, to someone who eventually left the convent in search of the deeper peace and spiritual belonging she never found inside its walls.

It’s the story of years spent obeying, striving, questioning, enduring, hoping—and finally, discovering the truth in a place I never thought to look: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In Metamorphosis, I share the loneliness, confusion, and inner battles I faced as I tried to reconcile what I had been taught with what I felt in my soul.

I speak honestly about rejection, heartbreak, fear, and humiliation—but also about joy, faith, healing, and the miracles that marked my path. I hope readers feel not only the weight of my struggles but also the triumph of perseverance, the beauty of truth discovered, and the peace I now hold close.

For anyone who’s ever wondered if God hears them—for anyone who’s searched for love in places where silence was louder than answers—I offer this story. Not as a scholar or theologian, but as a witness to the quiet, persistent love of a God who sees each of us, even when we don’t see ourselves.

Metamorphosis is not just about leaving one faith for another. It’s about the courage to seek, the willingness to question, and the joy of finally finding what was always meant to be yours. May my journey inspire you on your retirement.

I mentioned that I was writing my life story about my childhood, adolescent years, and high school, why I went into a Catholic Convent for 17 years, why I left it, and my life forward. They encouraged me to publish my manuscript, which I had no intention of doing.

Now, I would like my readers to experience the various emotions & feelings of my loneliness, lack of love and understanding, rejection, feeling stupid and humiliated, fear, perseverance and determination in moving forward, and joy of accomplishments.

To feel my effort in researching the various religious beliefs for truth and finally finding the restored true Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon, and His restored Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I hope my story will be an inspiration to all who read it.

Author : Paszek, Barbara Jean

Barbara Jean Paszek's life reads like a novel—except every page is true. Raised in a devout Catholic home, Barbara followed a path of quiet obedience and deep yearning. At eighteen, she walked away from the world she knew and entered a convent, devoting herself to a life of sacrifice and spiritual service. For over eight years, she endured silence, structure, and isolation, all in pursuit of divine love. But the deeper she searched, the more she wrestled with questions no vow could quiet and no ritual could resolve. Metamorphosis is Barbara's intimate, unflinching account of that journey—from the innocent faith of a little girl, to the cloistered corridors of convent life, to the day she walked away from the veil and stepped into the unknown. Her story is not a rejection but a reckoning—a sacred pilgrimage that ultimately led her to a profound and personal encounter with God in an unexpected place: the Holy Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Readers will be moved by Barbara's honesty and grace as she recounts childhood joys, adolescent trials, spiritual crises, and small miracles. With a voice both vulnerable and courageous, she shares what it means to surrender everything for faith, only to find that real faith sometimes requires letting go of everything you've been taught to hold onto. Barbara writes not as a theologian or scholar, but as a witness to transformation. Her words carry the weight of lived experience and the warmth of a heart that's known sorrow, healing, and redemption. Metamorphosis invites readers of all faiths to examine their own journeys, to honor the doubts and detours, and to find peace in unexpected places. This book isn't just a memoir—it's an offering. A story for anyone who's ever felt torn between expectation and truth. For anyone who has asked quietly in the dark, \“Does God see me?\” Barbara's life is the answer: yes, He does.
