How Do Authors Amaze Us?

One of the most satisfying things about being a publisher is working with our authors and seeing them grow and mature. You’d typically expect this, but one of our authors amazes us. We are dang near flabbergasted by Carl Douglass! In the very best way, too. He is publishing book after book with us, more than 40, writing like a broken dam, and Douglass’ books get better. This former neurosurgeon indeed does write with gripping realism.

Here’s what Alaskan book reviewer Rebecca Goodrich says about Gog and Magog, a release by Douglass.

With the very first sentences of his thriller, Gog and Magog, Douglass had me by the throat with excitement. (I know this is a cliché, but I’ve never said this about any book before.)

Douglass has matured from a good writer into a great writer. And what a topic to take on! With Gog and Magog: Yawm al-Qiyamah, Yawm al-Din, The Day of Judgment, Douglass launches the reader into an all-too-plausible future, outlining how Islamic terrorists [some quite well known] are plotting to eliminate democracy worldwide.

Here’s a sample, those very same first sentences which have so impressed me as both reader and reviewer:

October, 2001

“’The Great Satan and the Little Satan were nicked, but not maimed, annoyed, but not ignited. The members of the Council of Leaders of Islam were collectively frustrated that thirty years of effort by Freedom Fighters had produced so little at so great a cost.

The chairman told them, “I am well aware of your good intentions, your dedication, and your piety. What I do not see is your patience. . . . We are making progress; we are coming to know our enemies well enough to find their weaknesses . . . . I have spent enough time among the infidels to know that they cannot hold their blasphemous tongues. Our people know much of their plans; they know nothing of ours.’”

Gog and Magog features a powerful female protagonist, Elizabeth Rowan, who first attracts national political party attention by revolutionizing prison security for the WOWs—the Worst of the Worst, the unredeemable prisoners of the U.S.

As the years through 2012 unfold in this tumultuous and all too plausible alternate history, Rowan is groomed for the presidency. There is nuclear war. It’s one wild ride, and I hope you pick up this book soon. Better clear a weekend for it!

So there you have it. We’ll keep you posted on Carl Douglass and our other amazing authors.
