Why We Publish Books

Many people don’t know that we got into book publishing by accident. I was a successful publisher of Alaska Outdoors magazine, and I hosted a fun radio talk show and produced a television show on the same topic.

Then, in 1990, my wife brought my attention to a dear friend who’d written a book, a memoir of her homesteading years in the Mat-Su Valley near Anchorage. Elverda Lincoln didn’t know any company in Alaska publishing books and figured publishing magazines was close to book publishing. So, there we were.

We never thought we’d become a book publishing company. We just worked on doing the best we could do for Elverda, and her first book, Udder Confusion, which we published in 1992. (She went on to do a second book with us, Alaska Animal Antics.)

Elverda’s happiness with her books spread by word of mouth. We did more books, many different kinds of books, and got better with each book, learning as we went. And now, more than 30 years later, we share in the success and happiness of our many authors, more than 250 worldwide.

To assist you in understanding how to work with Publication Consultants, we have put together a free book for you: Bringing Your Book to Market; A Writer’s Guide to Becoming a Published Author < http://bit.ly/2ymDVXx>. I think you’ll like what you’ll learn from this.

I’m a writer and a publisher and was once in the sad position of unwittingly signing away my rights to a book I’d worked hard to complete. Publication Consultants and I do our best to treat each author in the manner in which we, as writers, wish to be treated.

If you have questions after reading Bringing Your Book to Market, send me an e-mail, or give us a phone call.

And as you move from being a writer to becoming a published author, keep in touch.

We can help.

  • Many years ago I wrote a book for my grandson and convinced an artist friend to illustrate it. We made it into a book by using a company like Shutterfly.
Since that time, I actually lived in Alaska for a couple of years and heard of your company from a local writer at a flea market. Life goes on and I cross paths with Samatha, the illustrator, and we talked about actually having the book published.
The book is about a little boy who did not want to sleep in his own bed. Adventures were introduced and his life changed as he sleep in his own bed. After sharing the “book” with a few Mom’s who had the same issues, it made me realize that maybe there was a need for parents to help their children transition to their beds.
If this is something you feel you can help us with, please reach out and offer your advice.
    Kindly, Margie
